TED talk: The Secret of design is…noticing by Tony Fadell
Tony Fadell talks about the everyday things & problems that we see around us. He talks about how we become habituated to things and often neglect the necessity to address & resolve these problems. He talks about habituation which is nothing but getting used to the things that happen around us, so much so that it stops us from trying to fix those potential problems.
As a designer we must aim at not only noticing these small problems, but also on trying to resolve those problems like Mary Anderson did which led to the invention of the very first windshield wiper in 1902 in NY.
“See the world the way it really is, not the way you think it is.”
As Tony mentions that it is easy to solve a problem that almost everyone sees, but it is hard to solve a problem that almost no one sees. So, as a designer we must aim at being aware of what happens around us and try to find a solution to these prospective problems.
“Look broader. Look closer. Think Younger.”
